Arlene Barrera

Auditor-Controller

Arlene Barrera is the Auditor-Controller for Los Angeles County and is responsible for overseeing a department with 634 budgeted positions, an annual operating budget of $110 million, and an additional technology budget of $53 million. The Department of Auditor-Controller is responsible for establishing County fiscal and internal control policies and procedures; administering the County payroll; conducting audits and fraud investigations; monitoring social services contracts; performing mandated property tax functions; disbursing warrants to vendors, child support recipients, judgment and damages to claimants; and managing the County’s enterprise financial and payroll systems, eCAPS and eHR. Ms. Barrera also oversees the issuance of the Los Angeles County Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, Taxpayers’ Guide, and Single Audit Report.

She has over 33 years with the Auditor-Controller in the Audit, Disbursements, and Property Tax Divisions, and serves in her current capacity since 2019. Ms. Barrera serves as a member of the County’s Deferred Compensation Plan Committee and on the County’s Claims Board Committee. She also assists in representing the County before bond rating agencies and County bond investors.

Ms. Barrera holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from California State University at Dominguez Hills and is a Certified Public Accountant. She is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs, CalCPA, Government Finance Officers Association, and the State Association of County Auditor’s Executive Committee.
